Krill Defrosting Tips 🦐

Simple thawing methods to keep your krill in the best condition for baiting performance.

Basic Principle

For best results, thaw frozen krill in the fridge overnight, or soak in seawater for half hour to 2 hours (depends on the water temperature at the fishing spot). These are the most common and reliable methods.

If you need to use it quickly, an ice-water thawing method can also be used.

Recommended Thawing Methods
1

Refrigerator Thawing

About 6 hours
  • Minimises loss of juices and attractants
  • Keeps the krill firmer
  • Improves hook presentation
  • Best option for even thawing
2

Seawater / Ice Water Thawing

About 1 hour
  • Great for on-site use
  • Quick and practical at the fishing spot
  • Works well for fast bait preparation
  • Thaws faster in summer
3

Ice Water Quick Thaw

Emergency use
  • Keep the krill sealed while thawing
  • Use 0°C ice water to speed up thawing
  • Avoid direct contact with freshwater
  • Helps preserve texture and bait quality

Pro Tips

  • Add weight: Lightly press the block while thawing to help maintain firmness
  • Use half-thawed: Semi-frozen krill is easier to cut and hook
  • Seawater is better: It helps maintain firmness better than freshwater
